Rep. Bishop Remarks during USHR Approp. Cmte. FY27 Transportation & HUD Funding Bill Markup
The U.S. House of Representatives' Appropriations Committee marked up its Fiscal Year 2027 Transportation, Housing & Urban Development, and Related Agencies funding bill.
The Transportation, Housing & Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee has funding jurisdiction over the U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development, the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, and related agencies like the National Transportation Safety Board, U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, and Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation.
Congressman Bishop is a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.
During the full committee markup, he raised concerns that as housing and commutes to jobs have become more expensive, this bill abandons hardworking American families and businesses. The bill guts public transit funding and grants when so many people rely on public transportation to get to jobs and those businesses rely on it to bring in their customers. The bill cuts funds to the Federal Aviation Administration at a time when we the public has seen frightening incidents and crashes due to lack of resources. It will make it harder for our senior citizens, the disabled, and low-income families to be able to afford a place to call home.
