Rep. Bishop Supports Job Corps during USHR Approp. Cmte. FY27 LHHS Funding Bill Markup

The U.S. House of Representatives' Appropriations Committee marked up its Fiscal Year 2027 Labor, Health & Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies funding bill. The Labor, Health & Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee has funding jurisdiction over the U.S. Dept. of Labor, U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services, U.S. Dept. of Education, and related agencies like the Social Security Administration, National Labor Relations Board, Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, Medicaid & CHIP Payment & Access Commission, and the Institute of Museum & Library Sciences. Congressman Bishop is a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee. During the full committee markup, he spoke in support of the Job Corps program, a national program with over 120 centers across the country, located in every state. Job Corps offers at-risk youth varied academic opportunities and career pathways in business and industry and done in partnership with area businesses to help support local economies, creating a win-win situation. Unfortunately, President Trump proposed gutting the program this and last year, despite strong, bipartisan support for the program. Congressman Bishop, the co-chair of the Congressional Job Corps Caucus worked with Democrats and Republicans to fight back and restore FY26 funding last year. During the FY27 funding bill debate, Congressman Bishop reiterated his support for the program which includes the Turner Job Corps Center in Albany, GA, and related centers across Georgia's Second Congressional District and the state.
