Rep. Bishop calls for oversight during USHR Approp. Cmte. FY27 Homeland Security Funding Bill Markup

The U.S. House of Representatives' Appropriations Committee marked up its Fiscal Year 2027 Homeland Security funding bill. The Homeland Security Subcommittee has funding jurisdiction over the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security. Congressman Bishop is a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee. During the full committee markup, Congressman Bishop said the bill falls short of protecting Americans against fraud, waste, and abuse because it goes along with the president's request to gut the government watchdog, the Office of the Inspector General. He noted that this comes just as there are mounting concerns about the lack of transparency, accountability, and oversight of ICE and CBP.
