Bishop asks OMB Dir Vought about federal workforce cuts and the resurgence of New World Screwworm

The U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) hosted a hearing with the White House Office of Management and Budget's Director, Russell Vought. Congressman Bishop is a senior member of the committee and a member of the FSGG subcommittee. During the hearing, he asked Dir Vought about the harm that chaotic cuts to the federal workforce has undermined the ability of the government to provide the services and protections upon which hardworking Americans rely. He particularly asked about the resurgence of New World Screwworm (NWS) which had previously been eradicated in the U.S. in 1966 but has reappeared with many cases in the South in the past several months. NWS can decimate livestock and upset the food supply chain leading to increased costs for families at the grocery store. Last year, the Trump Administration caused a massive loss of USDA workers, including at APHIS, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, which is responsible for protecting Americans, the food supply chain, and the economy from invasive species and diseases. Americans need the federal workers at APHIS on the front lines to protect against NWS and other threats to American agriculture and our country's economy.
